Discipline Action: Automatic Suspension waived

No suspension will be imposed at this time, however, the Misconduct will go on record, and as such, any further incidents of this nature by Adam Nathwani will result in more severe consequence and likely an extended suspension.

Description of Incident:

Adam Nathwani of Shock N Awe was removed from the game after a verbal confrontation with an opposition player. He is alleged to have made contact with the players face shield with his stick.

A Misconduct was called and the 1 game automatic suspension has been appealed, requiring a hearing.

Concern:

In speaking directly in person to the referee, he indicated that the stick contact to the cage was just a tap, but intentional. When asked candidly, the official expressed that he did not think a suspension was necessary.

Referee Report:

From the official, Murray Sherwin:

In the 1st game, Shock and Awe against Plugs there was a Misconduct handed out to Shock and Awe in the last 5 minutes. #8 from S&A and #14 from Plugs were chirping each other at the endzone faceoff dot. I asked them to stop and move to the wing when #8 decided he wanted to get the last word in and wacked #14 in the Cage(face) with his stick. I assessed a 10 minute misconduct and sent him to the dressing room..

Defense Response:

From Blair Nowitsky, Shock N Awe:

The refs were out of position for 2 goals that we scored.. pucks in the net but both called back because they were out of position- one goal they were both at the redline.  Nat was questioning the call at the face off and got ejected, completely harmless.  The ejection, if warranted, should suffice.
Check the pims… these games are Extremely one sided - that’s another issue

The Decision:

After considering the situation and consulting with the Referee, it was unanimously decided by the Disciplinary Hearing that it was the intention of the referee to remove Adam Nathwani from the game and not necessarily have him miss the next game. With this being the intention, it's fair to say that the referee erred with his call. The correct call would have been a Game Ejection - which carries no automatic suspension.
